This project was all about retaining and refurbishing an existing building within an historical setting and making it economically viable by developing and maximising the floor area to the rear of the site.
Entrance to the development is through an existing archway in the Victorian facade leading to a glazed roof void between the existing and new building. One then can access the ground floor cafe or the 4 floors of office floor plates above. Strict planning guidelines for this area were adhered to by keeping the rear building to a height not seen from street level. This successful economic solution brought new life and vitality to this derelict part of the city.
